Program Topics

Before Session 1
Deliverables:
  • Review and sign the Commitment Statement.
  • Review and sign the NDA.
  • Review and sign Client Engagement Letter.
    • The above three documents must be uploaded to your Basecamp prior to the beginning of the program, or else you will be dropped from the cohort. 
  • Complete pre-program survey from [email protected]
  • Watch Lectures 1.5A and 1.5B: Business Models and Customer Development.​
  • Conduct 3 customer interviews, fill out one Customer Interview Form per interview, and upload each to your Basecamp. 
  • Prepare a 60-second elevator pitch about your business idea to be given in the first class meeting. 
You should plan to briefly introduce yourself, explain what problem you are trying to solve, and what your idea or startup is. Please prepare 1 slide with visuals to facilitate your pitch (.ppt, .pptx files please!).

Session 1
Class Topics:
  • Introduction of the Program
  • Business Model Canvas Basics
  • Forming Customer and Value Proposition Hypothesis
  • 60-second pitches​
Deliverables for the following week:
  • Watch Lecture 1: What We Now Know and Lecture 3: Customer Segments.
  • Week 1 Workbook to document hypotheses on customer segment and value proposition
  • Conduct 3 additional customer interviews (total of 6).
Session 2
Entrepreneurial Leads meet with I-Corps Instructors to go over customer segment and value proposition hypotheses.
  • Schedule a meeting time with your instructor. 
Deliverables for the following week:​
  • Watch Lecture 2: Value Proposition
  • Conduct 3 additional customer interviews (total of 9)
  • Presentation #2 prepare for 5-minute Q&A, use the 3-slide template.
Session 3
Class Topics:
  • Customer Interviewing Techniques
  • Market Research
  • Presentation #2 5-minute and Q&A 
Deliverables for the following week:
  • Watch Lecture 4: Channels and Lecture 5: Customer Relationships.
  • Week 3 Workbook documenting interview strategy
  • Conduct 3 additional customer interviews (total of 12).
  • Listen to recorded slide presentation Market Sizing Presentation and upload your completed Market Sizing Analysis (Rewatch Steve Blank video on market sizing titled Total Available Market-How to Build a Startup for additional help). 
Session 4
Entrepreneurial Leads meet with I-Corps Instructors to discuss progress during the program, interview feedback and any next steps.
  • Schedule a meeting time with your instructor. 
Deliverables for the following week​:​
  • Listen to the recorded slide presentation Competitive Analysis and upload a completed Competitive Analysis document
  • Conduct 3 additional customer interviews (total of 15).
  • Presentation #3: Prepare for 5-minute Q&A.
There is an off week between Sessions 4 and 5. There will be no class meeting and no meeting with your instructor. You will still be expected to upload 3 customer interviews for this week. This will bring your interview count to 15. Also, for this off week, get caught up on any missed work. 
For the end of Session 5, conduct 3 more interviews to bring your total to 18.

  • Customer Archetypes, Segmentation, & Work Flow Maps ​
  • Presentation #3 
  • Final Presentation Tips
Deliverables for the following week:
  • Week 5 Workbook documenting customer archetype and workflow map.
  • Competitive Analysis Form
  • Conduct 3 additional customer interviews (total of 21).
  • Prepare the final presentation using the FINAL PRESENTATION TEMPLATE. 
Optional:
Sign up for a practice session with your instructor early in the week of the last class meeting (Session 6).

​ Session 6 
Class Topics:
  • Final Presentations
  • Network and Regional Resources/Follow-On Funding
  • All interviews should be uploaded by 5 pm on the last day of class. 
Deliverables for future weeks:
  • Connect with regional advisors and the program.
  • For Community Teams, additional interviews are due within 60 days of the last day of class.
