My Top Northeastern Ohio Trails

Walking outside in nature can be a powerful way to reduction stress. The simple act of stepping into nature, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, can have an immediate calming effect on the mind. With the beautiful turn of the season, now is a great time to get out there and enjoy the fall days.

Northeastern Ohio is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts, offering some amazing walking trails that allow you to immerse yourself in nature. From tranquil forested paths to breathtaking lakefront routes, the region has something to offer for everyone. In this blog, we'll take you on a journey through some of the best free walking trails in Northeastern Ohio.

​Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a haven for nature lovers, located between Cleveland and Akron. The park boasts an extensive network of walking trails, ranging from easy strolls to challenging hikes. Explore scenic waterfalls, lush forests, and the iconic Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, offering a glimpse into the region's historical past.

Mill Creek Park, Youngstown
This is my hometown and a frequent visit of mine on the weekends! Mill Creek Park in Youngstown is a fantastic destination offering numerous walking trails. The Lanterman's Mill Trail is particularly popular, leading you to a historic grist mill. Sometimes there will be craft fairs or markets so look out for some events especially coming into the fall season! The park also features beautiful lakes, gardens, and woodlands to explore. 

​Cascade Park, Elyria
Cascade Park in Elyria is a unique urban spot with scenic walking trails. Here you can find stunning waterfalls, rock formations, and vibrant greenery as you wander along the trails. It's a great place for a peaceful and refreshing walk. 
 
Virginia Kendall Ledges, Peninsula
The Virginia Kendall Ledges in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a must-visit for any hiking and nature enthusiast. The trails take you through stunning rock formations and lush forests, offering a challenging yet rewarding hiking experience.

​Holden Arboretum, Kirtland

Holden Arboretum is a botanic garden that also features several walking trails. Explore the diverse trees, gardens, and natural landscapes while walking through well-marked trails. It's a great destination for those interested in both nature and education.

​Hinkley Reservation, Hinckley

Hinkley Reservation is known for its sandstone ledges and diverse ecosystems. The Ledges Loop Trail is a popular choice, allowing you to explore these unique geological formations and enjoy views of the surrounding landscape.
